Locate and Mark First
Every NDD job starts with service locating. Our locators trace the services with EMI and GPR and mark them to AS5488, so each dig is aimed at known targets instead of guesswork.
Hydro and Air Excavation
Pressurised water or air from hand-held lances breaks up the soil around the service. Our trucks carry dual Gerni lances, which halve the time needed for trenching and potholing on busy sites.
Vacuum Extraction
The loosened soil is lifted by vacuum hose into a sealed tank. Our trucks hold 6,000 to 9,000 litres, enough for anything from a single service check to a full shift of potholing on a major project.
Measure, Photograph and Report
Exposed services are measured for position and depth and photographed. Results go into a report or onto your utility mapping and CAD plans, ready for design and audit.
Backfill and Reinstatement
We backfill and reinstate the site, including hard surfaces with hotmix, cold mix, DGB and sands, and take spoil and drill mud to registered disposal facilities.

Is NDD the same as hydro excavation?
In practice, yes. Hydro excavation is NDD with pressurised water, and NDD can also use air. Both lift the loosened soil out by vacuum, so no machine bucket comes near the services.
Do I need a service locate before NDD?
Yes. NDD is aimed at services that have already been located and marked. We locate with EMI and GPR first, so every pothole is placed where it counts.
What is potholing?
Potholing is digging a small, targeted hole with NDD to expose a service and measure its exact position and depth. It is how services are verified to QL-A under AS5488.
Can NDD work in clay or rocky ground?
